OUR MISSION
-- at Central is to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ in faithful response to God's will. We seek in all persons a faith and commitment to Jesus Christ through service to our community, commitment to Christ's Body, the Church and faithful work beside others in ecumenical proclamation of the oneness of the Body of Christ, and in all ways to make known the love of God. |
|
OUR VALUES
-- are defined through our openness to differences. We value and welcome the uniqueness each individual brings to our church community. As an open and affirming congregation, we welcome all people of every ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, disability, economic status or cultural background.
|
|
OUR IDENTITY
-- is documented by the rich fellowship we share as a part of Christ's Body. We value the celebration of God's love as together we worship, study, express our varied interests and talents and gather informally and in social settings. |
|
OUR DEVOTION
-- is to sharing the promise of God's love in ways that respect all persons as we seek to reach out to our own community and share a commitment to mission beyond our own boundaries. |
|
OUR SPIRITUALITY
-- is manifest as we respect each person's spiritual growth through providing a loving community of support. |
|
OUR COMMITMENT
-- is to growth in expressing the stewardship of the Gospel. Through the challenge to each person to become a growing steward of time, talent and financial resources to the mission of Christ's church we are devoted to the conviction that God will bless us in accordance with our faithfulness. |
|
OUR DREAM
-- is to be a diverse community of faith wherein persons feel a family identity without age or historic boundaries. We visualize that our congregation will be known by the reality of all ages and all classes of people being at home with one another. |
OUR HERITAGE
-- is maintained through our identity and affirmation of the historic practices and convictions of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). In expression of that affirmation we are steadfast in the practices of:
--Open membership, welcoming all Christians into our fellowship. --While being open to those who have identified with Christ by another tradition, we baptize those initially identifying with Christ by immersion. --Weekly observance of the Lord's Supper. --The partnership of lay and clergy in leadership.
--Taking the scriptures seriously regarding spiritual matters.
